Vaibhav Suryavanshi Emerges As IPL’s New Power Hitter
Chris Gayle really made a name for himself by unsettling bowlers with these enormous sixes, like every delivery turned into a statement. In one IPL season, he managed 59 sixes, and for years that mark was kind of left alone, untouched not really challenged. Fans pretty much felt that record would stay safe for a long time, maybe forever.
Well, that feeling has shifted now.
A young batter, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has gone ahead of Gayle by landing 65 sixes in a single IPL season. And because he bats with this fearless, no-questions type of attitude, people have started calling him “Universe Baby Boss.” Every time he loads up and swings, the crowd is basically waiting for the ball to clear the boundary, like clockwork.
A Teenager Playing Fearless Cricket
- Most teenagers spend their free time stuck in school, hanging out with friends, or wasting time on video games. Vaibhav Suryavanshi though, has taken a different road. At just 14 years old, he has already become, one of the most frightening hitters in the IPL.
- His most recent innings came against Sunrisers Hyderabad. There he went after a bowling unit led by Pat Cummins. Cummins had said earlier that his team had prepared several plans for the young batter, but Vaibhav didn’t really care. He kept dominating the attack anyway.
- Vaibhav ended with 97 runs off only 29 balls before being dismissed. If he had found one more boundary, he could have broken Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest IPL century. During that knock, he struck 12 sixes, and 5 fours too. Out of the 97,92 runs basically came from boundaries, so you know it wasn’t a slow build at all.
- When the giant screen popped up the nickname “Universe Baby Boss,” the crowd reacted, loud and fast, like they were part of the same plan.
Numbers Behind the Explosion
Vaibhav’s season has been powered almost completely by aggressive stroke work.
Across 15 matches, he has already piled up 630 runs. His boundary stats look like this:
- 65 sixes
- 55 fours
So,610 of his runs are tied directly to boundaries. That sort of strike power has made him one of the biggest attractions in the tournament right now, people watch him the way you watch a spark, because it might blow up any second.
From Bihar to that IPL Spotlight
Vaibhav’s rise really started in Bihar, you know. Former cricketer Samar Quadri first clocked his talent during a practice session. At that time, Quadri was working as a net bowler for Rajasthan Royals, so he saw a lot close up.
He then told Rajasthan Royals director Zubin Bharucha about the teenager. After watching Vaibhav in the trials, the franchise decided to put money into him, like straightaway.
Before the 2025 IPL season, Rajasthan Royals signed Vaibhav for ₹1.10 crore.
Not long after he stepped into the league, Vaibhav grabbed national attention by blasting a century in just 35 balls. That innings, kind of confirmed his natural attacking mindset, plus a lot of confidence even against seasoned bowlers.
Calm Confidence, despite the Age
Vaibhav talks with this unusual calmness for someone so young, and it stands out. He says he doesn’t fret over the strategies bowlers prepare, because he already carries his own blueprint, in his head.
A number of former cricketers have praised the way he goes about it. Sachin Tendulkar recently appreciated his footwork, especially while dealing with yorkers. Tendulkar said the teenager’s balance and timing were noticeable, even when pressure was high.
And even though he missed a record century versus Sunrisers, the innings still turned into one of the most discussed performances of the season, period.
Trying to Stack More IPL Milestones
Sure, several big IPL records still rest with Chris Gayle. But Vaibhav has already knocked off one of those, by setting a new six-hitting record.
The youngster has openly said that one day he wants to cross 200 runs in an IPL innings. With how he’s performing right now, many fans feel that kind of score maybe won’t be that impossible anymore.
He is also nearing another milestone. Vaibhav currently has 932 IPL runs. If he adds 68 more, he will become the youngest player in league history to reach 1,000 runs.
What makes the achievement even more remarkable is the way he scores. Out of those 932 runs:
- 89 sixes
- 73 fours
Together, boundaries account for 826 runs.
These numbers explain why many observers now see Vaibhav Suryavanshi as one of the most explosive young batters in modern T20 cricket.
