Deepti Sharma Breaks World Record As India Defeats Pakistan In Women's T20 World Cup

India kicked off its Women’s T20 World Cup run in a very bold way, beating Pakistan. In the first game India pulled in a 64-run victory, and Deepti Sharma did something special, so much so that she slipped into the record books, like real quietly but still big.

India went in, with confidence, and the win came thanks to both the batting side and the bowling unit, India clearly got a grip on the match and then kept it. The result also gives the squad early momentum and makes its position stronger in the competition, even if it’s just the start.

Deepti Sharma Makes History

That five-wicket moment really flipped the match

Deepti Sharma was central to the win, with bowling figures of 5 for 10. Her spell kept Pakistan uncomfortable the whole time, and it stopped them from forming any kind of solid, meaningful partnerships. Basically, pressure was there, and Pakistan couldn’t shake it off.

Also, she became only the third bowler in Women’s T20 World Cup history to grab a five-wicket haul, which is not a small thing.

A big personal record in women’s T20 cricket

This match wasn’t only about the team, it was also a major personal milestone for Deepti. After taking those five wickets, she became the highest wicket-taker in women’s T20 international cricket.

Deepti now has 166 wickets in T20 internationals. She went past Thailand’s Nattaya Boochatham, who held the mark before with 165 wickets.

And that number is basically a sign of consistency, plus a long-term contribution to Indian women’s cricket.

Deepti’s thoughts after the match

Thriving when it gets tight

  • After the game, Deepti said she genuinely enjoys playing in high-pressure moments, especially during ICC tournaments. She linked her success to preparation, plus execution, like she knew exactly what to do, even when the match was loud around her.
  • According to Deepti, she was able to apply in the match what she usually practices during training sessions, sort of like it all clicked in the moment. She also mentioned that the pitch conditions really suited her bowling style, and that helped a lot.

Focus on  Continuous Improvement

  • Deepti really stressed the need for constant upgrade through out her career. She said she tries to make sure her present performance is sharper than it was when she first began playing international cricket.
  • She routinely checks her bowling footage and stays in touch with her coach Avishkar, just to spot the small weak points and make sure she doesn’t repeat the same blunders again.

Team Effort Behind the Victory

  • Even though Deepti’s bowling got a ton of attention, she framed the result as a full squad effort. She also praised the batting partnership and the solid base put in place by Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
  • Deepti added that she wanted to thank the fans too, saying the noise and encouragement from the crowd gave the team extra momentum during the match.

Harmanpreet Kaur Reaches a Major Milestone

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, then again, reached a big milestone in the game. She made 36 runs off 35 balls and became India’s top run-getter in Women’s T20 World Cup history.

Now she has 732 runs from 34 World Cup matches, moving past the earlier Indian benchmark of 726 runs held by Mithali Raj.

This tournament is also notable because it’s Harmanpreet’s 10th appearance in a Women’s T20 World Cup, which basically shows how experienced she is, and how long she’s been delivering at the highest level.

What This Means for India's World Cup Journey

India’s clear win over Pakistan gives its Women’s T20 World Cup campaign a strong beginning. Deepti Sharma’s world-record moment and Harmanpreet Kaur’s milestone make the victory feel even more meaningful.

With experienced players delivering on the big stage, India will look to build on this performance as the tournament progresses.
