India Defeat Netherlands By 95 Runs In Women's T20 World Cup

India showed a really commanding performance against the Netherlands in a Group 1 match of the Women’s T20 World Cup, and well it looked pretty clear early on. Strong batting from the top order, plus disciplined bowling helped India take a 95-run win. India made 209/5 in 20 overs, which is the highest total by India in Women’s T20 World Cup history. Then in reply, the Netherlands were finally bowled out for 114, in just 17.3 overs.

India managed Their Highest T20 World Cup Total

After losing the toss, India were asked to bat first. Honestly that call just didn’t go the way the Netherlands wanted. India’s batters attacked from the get-go and kept a high tempo in their scoring all through the innings.

The opening pair worked like a charm. They got India to 96 without loss after 10 overs, then in the back half of the innings they kept going, steady, and sort of taking control. Even though a few wickets fell late, the team still ended up with that big, impressive total 209/5.

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma Lead the Charge

  • Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma absolutely dominated the Netherlands bowling. Their stand sort of set the tone and gave India full command of the match.
  • Shafali played with aggression right from the start. She scored 55 off 38 balls, with 10 boundaries. Her fifty arrived not long after the 10-over mark, so it felt like the innings was already in the bag by then.
  • Smriti, meanwhile paced things smartly first, then gradually upped the rate. She made 74 runs from 47 balls, including 11 fours and one six. A standout moment came when she hit four straight boundaries in the 15th over, which was a nice little statement.
  • That opening stand carried India to 115 before the first wicket fell. And by the time Smriti got dismissed, India had already reached 162.
  • Richa Ghosh finished with 20 not out, while Jemimah Rodrigues made 19. Deepti Sharma stayed unbeaten on 10.

Netherlands Struggle in The Run Chase

Chasing 210 for a win, the Netherlands really needed  a strong start, but for some reason regular wickets kept popping up and stopped them getting any momentum.

Heather Siegers made 21, and the captain Babette de Leede led the way with 28 runs. Sterre Kalis contributed 18, yet still, nobody managed to play one of those full match-changing knocks where everything flips.

The required run rate just kept climbing, and pressure turned into bad choices , which showed on the field. At one point the Netherlands were 113/5, but after that their innings sort of went quick, no resistance for long enough.

Indian Bowlers Sealed the Win in Style

  • India’s bowlers backed up what the batters had set, with a really solid effort.
  • Sreecharani was the standout, taking 4 wickets for 19 runs and breaking apart the middle and lower order. That spell, it clearly decided the chase.
  • Shafali Verma was also very effective, finishing with 3 wickets for 20 runs. Nandani Sharma picked up 2 wickets for 22, while Deepti Sharma took 1 wicket.
  • They kept pressure on the Netherlands the whole time, and the batters never really got time to settle, or breathe.

Key Turning Points  in the Game

A few key moments shaped how things turned out.

First, the opening stand between Smriti and Shafali gave India a strong base. Their attacking intent kept the Netherlands uncomfortable from the very beginning.

Second, India’s acceleration in the middle overs pushed the total beyond 200. The Netherlands then couldn’t really slow the scoring rate down, even when they tried.

Finally, near the end the Netherlands faced a dramatic collapse. Once they got to 113/5, they then lost their last five wickets for just one run. That collapse, just ended any real hope of shrinking the defeat margin.

What This Result Means for India

That win kinda tightens India’s position in Group 1, and it really boosts the teams own confidence. The batting part looked like it had more layers ,not just top order, and the bowlers gave an all around showing—so overall it felt complete.

India’s next match is against South Africa on the 21st . The side will try to take that momentum, right into the new contest, without losing focus.
