India Vs Afghanistan 1st T20I: Abhishek Sharma’s Explosive 82 Powers India To A Seven-Wicket Victory
India posted a dominant display in a stunning New Delhi, routing Afghanistan in the opening T20 International by seven wickets. Abhishek Sharma’s blistering half-century and Arshdeep Singh’s impressive spell of bowling helped India take a 1–0 lead in the three-match T20I series.
Afghanistan Set India a Target of 157 Runs
After being asked to bat, Afghanistan had a slow start at the crease. India’s bowlers applied pressure immediately as Jasprit Bumrah removed Rahmanullah Gurbaz at the start of the innings.
The innings was plagued with quick wickets and Afghanistan was in trouble during the powerplay but Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi led a crucial recovery.
Omarzai played a superb unbeaten innings of 64 runs from 44 deliveries while Nabi scored 33 runs. The two valuable partnerships helped Afghanistan finish with 156 runs for six wickets in 20 overs which set India a target of 157.
Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler who finished with impressive figures of three wickets for 19 runs. Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy also picked up a wicket each.
Abhishek Sharma Unleashes a Batting Masterclass
India’s chase started with an early setback as the opener Sanju Samson was dismissed on 10. But Abhishek Sharma soon shifted the momentum back in India’s favour.
The left-handed opener unleashed a breathtaking innings of 82 runs from just 32 balls with seven boundaries and seven sixes. Sharma’s aggressive strokeplay gave the Afghan bowling attack a run for their money.
Abhishek’s fearless batting gave India complete control of the run chase and turned the match into a one-sided contest.
Ishan Kishan Provides Valuable Support
Ishan Kishan played an important backup as he scored 42 runs from 33 balls. The partnership between Kishan and Abhishek Sharma kept Afghanistan’s target always within reach.
Although Afghanistan managed to take a few late wickets, the target was never out of India’s reach with the opening captain Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma wrapping it up comfortably.
India reached the target in 13.4 overs with a score of 157 for three to secure a convincing seven-wicket win with 38 balls to spare.
