Asian Games 2026: Kamaljeet And Suruchi Singh Win Gold In 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team Event

India scored another gold medal at Asian Games 2026 as shooters Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh dominated the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan today (September 25).

The Indian pair completed the final with an outstanding 484.6 points to see off South Korea’s Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo, who were runners-up with 478.0 points. Iran placed third with 415.8 points for the bronze medal.

India Dominates the Shooting Final

A pair of shooters from India made it to the medal round after finishing top of the qualification stage. They retained their advantage through the final and finished 6.6 points ahead of South Korea. Their winning score was also a new Asian record after the previous best score was 481.3.

The Indian pair of shooters got off to a flying start, posting 303.5 points after the opening three series. They then began to extend their advantage as the eliminations progressed, reaching 364.7 points before Indonesia saw off the wall. Iran eventually finished third, which left India and South Korea to fight for the gold medal.

South Korea mounted a late comeback in the final series, but Kamaljeet and Suruchi retained their composure to finish on 484.6 points to win gold for India.

A Strong Comeback for the Indian Pair

The gold medal was doubly satisfying for both shooters, each of whom had failed to qualify for the individual 10m air pistol finals. Kamaljeet finished ninth in the individual qualification while Suruchi Singh came 26th. In the mixed-team competition, they made it to the final and took the shot at the gold medal, which they converted into India’s shooting gold at the games.

For Suruchi, it was another milestone in a growing international record, as the 19-year-old shooter has collected a series of major medals on the ISSF World Cup circuit. He has emerged as one of India’s leading young 10m air pistol competitors.

Meanwhile, Kamaljeet has competed in both the 10m and 50m pistol events. He also picked up gold at the 2023 ISSF Junior World Championships in the 50m pistol junior men’s event.

India’s Second Gold Medal at Asian Games 2026

India’s victory was the second gold medal the country had scored at Asian Games 2026. India’s first gold medal at the Games came in the women’s cricket, with the shooting victory adding another title to India’s medal tally in Aichi-Nagoya.

Kamaljeet and Suruchi’s performance was also a turning point for India’s shooting contingent, with the pair producing a record-breaking score under pressure to win the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team gold medal.
