Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill hit stunning centuries as India chased down West Indies' 296 with a clinical 8-wicket win in the first One Day International (ODI) match at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27, 2026.

Chasing a score of 296, India posted a score of 300/2 in 41.4 overs with 50 balls still to go, with Virat Kohli remaining unbeaten on 139, off 88 balls, and captain Shubman Gill scoring a fluent 110. Their commanding innings saw them turn the seemingly difficult chase into a commanding Indian win.

Virat Kohli Completes 86th International Century

Virat Kohli once again delivered an outstanding ODI innings. The former India captain hit an unbeaten 139 off just 88 deliveries, smashing 10 fours and 9 sixes.

Kohli reached his century in 74 balls with a huge six off Gudakesh Motie which took his tally to his 86th international century and 55th ODI hundred. He also crossed the 15,000-run ODI milestone which makes him the second batter in men's ODI history to achieve the feat after Sachin Tendulkar.

His explosive innings saw him keep the required run rate within easy reach throughout the chase.

Shubman Gill Scores 10th ODI Century

India captain Shubman Gill also played an important role in the win, stepping in to a solid opening stand after Rohit Sharma was out for 32, and then quickly joined Kohli at the crease to seize control of the innings.

Gill scored 110 runs, recording his 10th ODI century, and with Kohli's 86th international century, the two put on a huge second-wicket stand of around 150 to take the game away from the West Indies.

Gill played 13 fours and a six in his innings with his ability to accelerate the innings after he reached his half-century helping India to remain safely ahead in the chase.

Kuldeep Yadav’s Four-Wicket Haul

• Earlier, West Indies posted a total of 295/7 in 50 overs after they had been put first to bat.
• Justin Greaves led the West Indies batting effort with a century, scoring 101, while John Campbell chipped in with 62. The openers put on a 135-run partnership and laid a solid platform for the visitors.
• Kuldeep Yadav then changed the momentum in the innings with an impressive spell. The left-arm wrist-spinner reaped huge rewards claiming 4/40, taking out key West Indies batters and preventing the visitors from scoring a higher total.
• Amir Jangoo provided late resistance with an unbeaten 58 helping West Indies finish close to the 300-run mark.

India Take 1-0 Lead in ODI Series

India's chase came in just 41.4 overs with the home team finishing on 300/2. The innings was marked with Virat Kohli's unbeaten 139 and Shubman Gill's 110.

The win gives India a 1-0 lead in the ODI series over West Indies, with the rest of the matches to be played with India taking an early advantage.
