Tirupati Stampede Incident: Rs. 25 Lakh Ex-Gratia For Deceased's Families

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a compensation of Rs. 25 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic stampede at Tirupati. Revenue Minister Satya Prasad confirmed the ex-gratia and assured support to the victims' families. Ministers Anitha, Parthasarathi, and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy visited the grieving families at Tirupati Ruia Hospital. They also visited injured individuals being treated at SWIMS Hospital and interacted with the attending doctors.

Investigation Underway: Strict Action Promised

Home Minister Anitha said the authorities are inquiring into the stampede to find out if it was a case of accident or negligence. Speaking to the media after meeting the victims, she said the CCTV footage would help pinpoint lapses. She promised that stringent action would be taken against the person responsible, regardless of their position and vowed to bring in measures that would prevent such incidents in the future.

Incident Cast a Shadow on Vaikuntha Ekadashi Celebrations

"Vaikuntha Ekadashi is a sacred occasion, and it was unfortunate that the tragedy occurred on this day," said Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy. He said that if poor planning or a lack of coordination led to the mishap, it would be evident from the investigation. He said that clear instructions had been issued to district collectors to see that the bodies were sent to their respective hometowns for last rites to be performed.

Sudden gate opening caused the stampede: Collector's statement

Collector Venkateswarlu has said that the stampede occurred as gates were suddenly opened at the token issuance counters. He further stated that those injured are receiving treatment at SWIMS Hospital and will be alright in a couple of days. He further stated that post-mortem examinations will be carried out quickly and the dead will be taken to their respective places. Collector has also informed that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu would personally visit the victims.
