Microsoft Lays Off Underperforming Employees

Microsoft has dismissed employees who failed to improve their performance, as reported by Business Insider. The termination letters specified that affected employees would lose medical, prescription, and dental healthcare benefits immediately. Some employees reportedly did not receive severance pay.

Strict Termination Notice Issued

The termination letter stated:

"You have not met the minimum standards of performance appropriate to your position. As a result, you are being terminated. You are being relieved of all duties. Permissions to Microsoft systems, accounts, and buildings are being suspended. You should not do any work on behalf of Microsoft."

Reemployment Considerations for Former Employees

Microsoft has informed terminated employees that if they reapply for a position at the company, their past performance and termination will be considered. The company recently reviewed the performance of employees up to level 80.

Microsoft’s Workforce and Recent Layoffs

As of June 2024, Microsoft had a workforce of 228,000 employees. In addition to performance-based layoffs, the company recently downsized staff in its security, device, sales, and gaming departments.
