India's ruling administration, the Central government, has taken on the investigation of the alleged wrongdoings in the reconstruction of Sheesh Mahal, the private home of the former Delhi CM and the head of AAP, Arvind Kejriwal. The investigation was initiated on February 13th as a result of a watch Report made by the Public Works Department (CPWD). The CBPWF has commanded the CPWD to carry out an extensive study to explore the allegations that the AAP regime had violated the building codes (IBC 2006) during the renovation of 6 Flagstaff Road bungalows, which are distributed over 8 acres of land.
BJP's Allegations Against AAP
The BJP in Delhi has blamed the AAP government for the acquisition and merging of four adjacent government properties with the Chief Minister's residence in Sheesh Mahal that was built without legal permission. Virendra Sachdeva sought the Lieutenant Governor's intervention to get the property merger decision canceled.
Mr. Virendra Sachdeva also remarked that if the BJP had been the ruling party of Delhi, the Chief Minister would not live at Sheesh Mahal.
BJP's Criticism of the Renovation
6 Flagstaff Road was once the house of Kejriwal when he was a CM. The BJP has been hammering him with the same charge of public funds mismanagement and insisting that he turned the house into a hotel of 7-star luxury, calling it 'Sheesh Mahal' (Mirror Palace).
Moreover, the BJP utilized the renovation issue as a central part of its election campaign in the Delhi Assembly elections and lashed out at it as part of the corruption of the AAP. One of the tough speeches of the PM said:
"I built homes for four crore people, but I never built a single glass palace."
According to the allegations regarding the misusage of public funds that are believed to be one of the reasons for the success of BJP, the reports state that BJP now intends to not use the bungalow for it to be targeted less by the media.
