
Costa Rica announced on Monday that it is receiving illegal immigrants from Central Asia and India who are being deported from the United States. The country's presidential office confirmed, stating, "A plane carrying 200 immigrants will arrive in Costa Rica on Wednesday. They are all from Central Asia and India."
These migrants are being transported on a commercial flight and will be placed in a temporary migrant camp near Panama. The entire process is being funded by the United States and will be overseen by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
US Expands Deportation Agreements in Latin America
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently toured Latin America, negotiating similar agreements with Guatemala and Panama. As part of this initiative, Panama has already received 119 immigrants from China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. However, no migrants have yet been relocated to Guatemala under this program.
India Receives More Deportees from the US
As part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration under US President Donald Trump, 112 Indian nationals arrived in Amritsar on Sunday at 10 PM aboard a military plane. This marks the third such flight deporting Indian immigrants.
The latest group includes:
- 44 individuals from Haryana
- 33 from Gujarat
- 31 from Punjab
- Remaining individuals from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh
Authorities have verified their details and are making arrangements for their return to their respective home states. Additionally, another 116 Indian immigrants arrived in Amritsar on Saturday night on a separate deportation flight.
