'Avengers: Doomsday' is an upcoming American superhero film on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers. It was developed by Marvel Studios and AGBO, and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures released it. 'Avengers: Doomsday' is an upcoming American superhero film on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers. It will be the fifth movie in the Avengers film series after Avengers: Endgame (2019) and the 39th in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The movie was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. It features an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr. In the movie, Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and X-Men unite to defeat Doctor Doom (Downey).
Two new Avengers movies, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, were greenlit in July 2022 as the end of the MCU's Phase Six and "The Multiverse Saga". Destin Daniel Cretton was brought on to direct The Kang Dynasty and Jonathan Majors was to reprise his MCU role as the villain Kang the Conqueror. Jeff Loveness was brought on board the film as writer that September. In November 2023, Cretton left, Waldron replaced Loveness as writer, and Marvel was looking at abandoning the Kang storyline, in part because of Majors's legal troubles; Majors was terminated the following month. The return of the Russo brothers as directors and McFeely as screenwriter, the casting of Downey as the new villain Doctor Doom, and the new subtitle Doomsday were all revealed in July 2024. Filming commenced in April 2025 at Pinewood Studios in England with a huge cast which was comprised largely of actors from earlier MCU media and other Marvel movies.
'Avengers: Doomsday' will be released in the United States on May 1, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. The sequel to the movie, Secret Wars, will be released on May 7, 2027.
