Rajinikanth's Reflections on 'Coolie' and Nagarjuna's Portrayal

Superstar Rajinikanth recently commented about his enthusiasm regarding the forthcoming movie Coolie. He stated that he was drawn to the character of Simon immediately when the plot was explained to him. In Rajinikanth's words, this character had already been portrayed successfully by Nagarjuna, making it all the more tempting.

Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, to be released on August 14, has Rajinikanth delivering a message to Telugu people at a pre-release function in Hyderabad.

Rajinikanth hails Lokesh Kanagaraj's direction

In his address, Rajinikanth welcomed the Telugu crowd and felt happy for achieving 50 years of career in film-making. He said that Coolie, which is produced by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is a special movie for him. He showered praise on Lokesh, stating that just as Rajamouli is a leading director in Telugu, so is Lokesh in Tamil films. He said that all the earlier films of Lokesh were hits.

Star Cast and Special Appearances

Rajinikanth pointed out that Coolie has a lot of star heroes. He is reuniting with actor Sathyaraj after decades. Shruti Haasan, Upendra, and Soubin also star in the film. Actor Aamir Khan also appears in a special role in the movie. Significantly, the villain is played by Nagarjuna, whom Rajinikanth considers an important aspect.

How Nagarjuna Got the Role of Simon

Rajinikanth told us that when he initially heard the story, he was keen to act as the character Simon. The team, however, found it difficult to cast the character. He told us that director Lokesh Kanagaraj met with an actor for six times, but it did not materialize. When Rajinikanth inquired about the actor, Lokesh told him it was Nagarjuna.

Rajinikanth was shocked and delighted when he heard that Nagarjuna had joined the film. He said that Nagarjuna is not the kind of person who does films only for the money and that he felt he signed on for Simon's role because it was significant.

Rajinikanth Looks Back on His Affiliation with Nagarjuna

Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna were a pair 33 years ago. Rajinikanth stated that they both haven't changed much since then—aside from his own baldness, he quipped. While working on the film, he inquired about Nagarjuna's health regimen. Nagarjuna replied that he maintains regular exercise, swimming, and light meals, with dinner over by 6 PM. He also attributed good genes and advice from his father.

Memories From the Thailand Shoot

Rajinikanth recalled a 17-day shoot schedule in Thailand, which he described as unforgettable. He said Nagarjuna's performance as Simon deeply impressed him. He compared the character dynamic to that of Baasha and Anthony, saying Coolie and Simon are a similar match.
