'Resident Evil' is an upcoming actionsurvival horror film directed by Zach Cregger. Alongside Shay Hatten, he also serves as a co-writer of the film's screenplay. Being the second reboot of the Resident Evil films, Resident Evil is based on Capcom's Resident Evil video games. Taking place in contemporary times, amid the alternate events of the 1998 game Resident Evil 2, the film revolves around Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who finds himself caught in a viral apocalypse of monsters in Raccoon City. Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Johnno Wilson, and Paul Walter Hauser are among its cast of secondary characters.

The plan for yet another Resident Evil film began forming early into 2022 when both the previous one, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021), failed critically and commercially and another film project for Netflix in 2022 had been canceled. Cregger joined the project in January 2025 as a director, and the collaboration between Sony Pictures' PlayStation Productions was announced shortly after. Four distributors have competed in the bidding process for the distribution right with Columbia Pictures (Sony) securing a deal in March 2025. Principal photography commenced in October 2025 in Prague.
