OpenAI, the firm that created ChatGPT, unveiled a new platform for AI agents that is designed to maximize artificial intelligence capacity. The new tech can enable AI agents to become virtual personal assistants that assist the user in automating tasks on the internet. OpenAI unveiled the new tech on its main social media platform, X.
Expansion of AI Agent Services
Initially open only to US members of ChatGPT Pro, OpenAI has since added the option to other countries such as India, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the UK. OpenAI also made it clear, however, that these are not yet launched in Europe but would be launching shortly.
How OpenAI's AI Agent Works
This computer agent is programmed to undertake sophisticated web activity automation. It is modelled according to the Computer-Using Agent (CUA) model and can carry out actions as per user instructions. This computer agent runs on the GPT-4o model and provides enhanced capability on a specialty browser.
Most Important Features of the AI Agent
- Automated Task Execution: The ability to outsource tasks and work on other work.
- Multi-Modal Inputs: Supports image and text input.
- Error Handling & Productivity Boost: In a position to handle errors and react to any unexpected situation gracefully.
AI Agents as Coworkers
These AI agents can actually do work otherwise done by software engineers, CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman says. They can do assigned work but can't generate novel ideas. These agents need to be monitored by humans to maintain control of the work they perform.
Altman also maintained again that AI agents will increasingly find their way in every branch of science in the long term with their scope running beyond the world of software programming.
