Rohit Sharma Named Brand Ambassador Of Revived T20 Mumbai League

Rohit to Lead Promotional Campaigns for Mumbai Cricket League

India ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma has been appointed brand ambassador of the forthcoming T20 Mumbai League. The MCA-run league, which had to shut down due to the extended break on the back of the pandemic, makes a comeback to the cricketing landscape after the hiatus. MCA feels the endorsement of Sharma will derive greater prominence and acceptance for the comeback of the league.

The Mumbai League held its final tournament in 2019, in which activities came to a halt halfway through the year due to the outbreak of Covid-19. To restart it has been presented as an essential step toward rejuvenating home cricket across Mumbai and serving as a launch pad for rising local cricketers.

Key Players from Mumbai to be on show

The Mumbai Cricket Association is expecting several top cricketers, including Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer, to be part of the new-look T20 Mumbai League. Their inclusion is expected to make the tournament more competitive as well as create curiosity among fans and stakeholders.

Other than Yadav and Iyer, other cricketers such as Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Tushar Deshpande, and Prithvi Shaw are also likely to be available. These players, who have represented Mumbai in domestic cricket, would be valuable in adding strength to the league.

League Revival Looks to Spur Local Cricket

An MCA official emphasized that while participation in the league is not compulsory, the association strongly encourages Mumbai's top players to take part. According to the official, having experienced and high-profile cricketers involved will help in the overall development of Mumbai cricket and offer valuable exposure for younger talent.

The league's return will be officially announced at an event scheduled for Friday, and Rohit Sharma will attend as the ambassador. As part of its new plan, MCA is going to offer a compensation of ₹15 lakh to each veteran player who registers for the tournament.

T20 Mumbai League Set for Resurgence with Star Power

The revamp of the T20 Mumbai League signals a greater focus on building domestic cricket infrastructure and experience in the region. With Rohit Sharma named as the ambassador and several of the established Mumbai-based players set to appear, the MCA will be hosting a more competitive and stronger tournament. The competition will serve as a platform for the emerging talent as well as the established professional, bridging the gap between grassroots and top-class cricket.
