Abhishek Nayar Sacked As Team India Assistant Coach, Returns To KKR

Nayar's Departure from Indian Team Coaching Staff

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially sacked Abhishek Nayar as assistant coach of the Indian national cricket team. His stint lasted only eight months. This comes after reports of internal conflicts and recent defeats in the Test series against New Zealand and Australia.

Rapid Return to Kolkata Knight Riders

After his departure, Abhishek Nayar returned to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as an assistant coach. His hiring was confirmed by the franchise in a social media post. He had also worked in the same capacity during the 2024 IPL tournament, which KKR had won.

To Work with Gautam Gambhir Again

While KKR had a successful 2024 season, Nayar closely collaborated with the then team mentor Gautam Gambhir. Together, they were largely responsible for the team's championship campaign. Post-IPL, Gambhir became the head coach of Team India and promoted Nayar to the national team. The alleged internal conflicts, however, saw Nayar removed from the position.
