'The Odyssey' is an forthcoming epic action fantasy film directed, produced, and written by Christopher Nolan as a retelling of the title epic poem by Homer, being produced by Nolan's production house Syncopy and distributed by Universal Pictures. Matt Damon plays the role of Odysseus, the Ancient Greek king of Ithaca, and follows his return home after the Trojan War to reclaim his wife, Penelope. The supporting ensemble cast also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
In October 2024, it was announced that Nolan was working on his next project for Universal, following doing so with his previous film Oppenheimer (2023). There was casting between the ensuing months, and in December, it was announced to be an adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. Production started filming in late February 2025, with scenes shot across Morocco, Greece, Italy, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, Scotland, and Ireland. Its estimated production cost of $250 million makes it likely to become the most expensive film of Nolan's career.
The Odyssey is set for theatrical release in the United States on July 17, 2026.
