Shubman Gill Receives Advice From Gavaskar Ahead Of England Series

Gill Becomes Test Captain After Rohit's Retirement

Shubman Gill has been appointed as India's new Test captain. This decision follows Rohit Sharma's retirement from the format. The BCCI recently announced the 18-member squad that will tour England under Gill’s leadership.

Gavaskar Stresses Importance of Conduct Over Performance

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar gave his advice to Gill. He said the behavior of a captain matters more than his performance.

"When you become a captain, the pressure increases. It’s different from just being a player. As a player, you talk mainly with close teammates. As a captain, your conduct must show respect for everyone. A captain should lead with dignity," Gavaskar explained.

Gill Credits Senior Players for Their Influence

Gill responded by acknowledging the impact of experienced players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

"Rohit, Virat, and Ashwin have taught us how to play abroad and win. We will keep learning from them," he said.
