Bengaluru Stampede: DK Shivakumar Expresses Grief Over Teen Deaths

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Pays Tribute to Bengaluru Stampede Victims

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was left deeply sorrowful after the stampede that took place during the RCB victory party in Bengaluru. The catastrophe resulted in several deaths, including teenagers.

While addressing the media for the first time since the incident, Shivakumar cried. The loss of young lives was very sad, he said. He added that any family could not have endured such a tragedy.

"Among the dead were 15-year-old teenagers. I saw at least 10 victims myself. No family should suffer so. We have to learn a lesson from this incident," he said, fighting back tears.

Shivakumar Dealt with Criticism and Describes Chronology of Events

Shivakumar also rejected opposition BJP's criticism of politicizing the tragedy. He stressed that the situation escalated very fast at the stadium and needed prompt action.

"The police commissioner called me right away. He told me one or two fans had passed away. I went to the stadium. The president and secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association were accompanying me. We decided to close the event in a hurry and told them not to declare anything. It was all over in 10 minutes," he clarified.

Apology and Future Measures

After the tragedy, Shivakumar extended an apology to the families of the victims. He stated that the accident shattered his heart and ought not to have occurred. He also vowed to enhance planning for upcoming events to prevent such tragedies.

On X (formerly Twitter), Shivakumar assured that the government would stand with the victims and their families at this challenging moment.
