Air India Confirms Black Box Yet to be Recovered
Air India has confirmed that the black box of the crashed flight is yet to be recovered. The flight was traveling from Ahmedabad to London and crashed on Thursday. 265 individuals lost their lives in the crash.
In a statement, Air India stated, "Reports that the black box has been recovered are false. The black box is missing."
What Is a Black Box?
Every commercial aircraft has two black boxes:
- One that records flight information.
- The other that records cockpit discussions.
If a pilot feels the plane or passengers are in danger, they send a "Mayday" signal. This is recorded in the cockpit voice recorder. Every word spoken during such events is captured.
When an accident happens, experts decode the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) inside the black box. This helps investigators understand the cause of the crash.
