Rishabh Pant Might Be Facing ICC Punishments For Conduct On Field

Pant Showed Disappointment Towards Umpire During Match

During Day 3 of the first Test between India and England at Headingley, Rishabh Pant exhibited apparent disagreement with on-field umpire Paul Reiffel. Following a boundary struck by England's Harry Brook in the 61st over, Pant appeared dissatisfied with the state of the ball. He handed it over to the umpire for checking.

Reiffel inspected the ball with a ball gauge and found it to be okay. Pant objected to the ruling. He tossed the ball onto the ground and walked off. Commentator Mark Boucher observed that it was not necessary for Reiffel to do that.

Possible Code of Conduct Violations Under Review

As a result of this incident, Pant could be acting against the ICC Code of Conduct. According to cricket experts, two matters are in the limelight: indicating dissent at an umpire's decision and hurling the ball in anger. They can be treated as offenses by match officials.

Pant Wins Milestone Despite Incident

Even after the controversy, Pant achieved a career milestone in the same game. He held a ball off the bat of Ollie Pope while bowled by Prasidh Krishna. This was Pant's 150th catch in Test cricket.

Pant is the third Indian wicketkeeper to achieve 150 catches. Behind him are Syed Kirmani (160 catches) and MS Dhoni (256 catches). Currently, Pant has 151 catches and 15 stumpings, totaling 166 dismissals. Dhoni leads with 294 dismissals (256 catches and 38 stumpings).
