Trump Orders Secret Service To Investigate UN Technical Glitches

Technical Issues During UN Visit

There were several technical issues that happened when former U.S. President Donald Trump was on a visit to the United Nations General Assembly, as reported. Trump has said the incidents were embarrassing and that maybe they were not an error.

Trump said there were three problems:

  • The elevator malfunctioned when he and his wife Melania were using it.
  • There was a teleprompter malfunction for some 15 minutes.
  • The auditorium sound system was not working properly.

Trump's Reaction

Trump complained about it on social media. He stated that the problems appeared to be deliberate and called for an investigation. He stated that he would write a letter to the UN Secretary-General and also involve the U.S. Secret Service.

After his speech, Trump justified that Melania didn't hear a thing due to the poor sound system. He declared that the problems were deliberate efforts to sabotage his speech.

UN's Explanation

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric talked about the matter. He explained that an investigation found that one of Trump's own aides may have triggered the escalator's safety feature while filming.

Information about the Incidents

Trump and Melania took the escalator up to the General Assembly hall. The escalator suddenly stopped, confusing people. Melania walked up the stairs, followed by Trump. He joked about the mishaps at the start of his speech.

He said:

  • The escalator did not work.
  • The teleprompter stopped working.

Trump indicated that he was able to talk off a teleprompter, saying that it allowed him to talk without holding back. Trump joked that if Melania was more overweight, she might have toppled over when the escalator stopped.
