Israel Launches New Strikes On Gaza After Ceasefire Breakdown

Ceasefire Agreement Collapses

The United States-brokered peace agreement between Israel and Hamas has collapsed. The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Tuesday directed his troops to launch fresh attacks on Gaza. The attacks started at night, and there were explosions in a number of places.

Reason for Renewed Conflict

Netanyahu said Israel had opened fire at Hamas forces in southern Gaza. He added that this action prompted Israel to carry out the attacks. Hamas retaliated by condemning Israel for violating the deal and threatening to delay transferring bodies still in its custody.

Dispute Over Bodies of Hostages

Hamas is still in possession of 13 bodies, according to reports. Netanyahu further accused Hamas of returning the body parts they brought back on Monday as belonging to a person who had been already established to be dead two years ago. He labeled this as a violation of the terms of the ceasefire.

Government Response and Possible Actions

Netanyahu sat with security officials on Tuesday to talk over the issue and the future plan of action. Israeli media indicated that the government could target Hamas leaders in future attacks. As expected, airstrikes against Gaza commenced shortly after the meeting.
