The final of the T20 World Cup 2026 will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The schedule was announced yesterday, Tuesday.
Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray attacked the decision as "partisan". He asked why the final will be held at the same venue.
Thackeray said, “Why is every final match held at the same place? Is Ahmedabad a traditional venue?”
He mentioned Mumbai could be one venue to host the final. Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai has hosted T20 World Cup finals in the past. Other stadiums included Eden Gardens in Kolkata, M.A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai, and IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
Thackeray said the ICC should not participate in political decisions. He also reminded that the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup also took place in Ahmedabad. During the match, India lost to Australia.
