Samantha Joins UN Women India's Campaign

Samantha has decided to address the growing online harassment that women face. The actress would be collaborating with the United Nations on this cause. She is scheduled to speak at an event organized by UN Women India on shared responsibility in protecting women's dignity. She wants to do her part in trying to reduce and prevent online harassment. She will take part in the 16-day campaign organized by UN Women India from November 25 to December 10.

Samantha shares her personal experiences

Samantha, who has 37 million followers on Instagram, described her own experiences of harassment online.

She clarified that:

  • Women face harassment through comments on social media.
  • Many of them receive online threats.
  • Some of them become targets of deepfake images.

She said this kind of violence, earlier considered to be mostly offline, appears on screens nowadays and affects mental well-being. It instills fear and reduces confidence while increasing insecurity. She mentioned that she has faced such situations many times. She added that women need more awareness about these issues, and the campaign aims to support that need.

Call for Stronger Systems and Laws

Samantha said that stronger systems should be created to reduce online violence.

She elaborated:

The need for strict laws. The importance of better protection frameworks. She said she felt privileged to be part of the UN Women India program.
