Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar met for breakfast on Saturday following instructions from the Congress high command. After the meeting, Siddaramaiah spoke to the media and made it amply clear that there were no differences between them in the past, and there will be none in the future.
He said the breakfast meeting was held as per the instructions of KC Venugopal. Siddaramaiah said no specific issues were discussed during the meeting. The aim of the meeting, he said, was to end the confusion that had been going on for the last one month. He also accused the BJP-JDS of indulging in false propaganda and said he along with DK Shivakumar would jointly face these claims. Siddaramaiah said the party is mainly concentrating on the 2028 state election and local election. He said all efforts are being directed to bring Congress victory in 2028.
DK Shivakumar confirms unity
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the Congress government came to power in Karnataka with the support of the people. He assured that he will continue to work in tandem with Siddaramaiah as promised. Shivakumar described their role as loyal party workers who follow the high command’s decisions. He added that the party is currently facing many challenges but is focused on winning the 2028 Karnataka elections. Shivakumar also mentioned that the meeting with Siddaramaiah included discussions on several issues, including the upcoming assembly session.
Background
There has been speculation over a change of guard in the Chief Ministership after two and half years of the Congress government. The rumors indicated that there was an understanding to hand over the responsibilities of CM to DK Shivakumar then. Though the party had issued several denials on that, the issue has been the central point of political discourse. Ahead of this, the meeting of Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar took place today as per the high command's directions.
