New Electronic System Coming Soon
Soon, commuters traveling via national highways will be passing through the toll plaza without a stop. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari today declared that a new electronic toll system is going to replace the existing one. He explained that the system has already been implemented in 10 places and will be expanded throughout the country in a year's time. He was sharing this information during the question-and-answer session in the Lok Sabha.
How the New System Works
Referring to toll collection, Gadkari said the country would soon move to a no-stoppage system. He pointed out that as many as 4,500 highway projects worth ₹10 lakh crore were underway across the country. The upgrade is enabled by the National Electronic Toll Collection program, said the NPCI. With the FASTag technology implemented in NETC, the toll amount will be directly deducted from the bank account of the user when the vehicle crosses the toll plaza.
