Overview of Economic Losses

The Chamber of Trade and Industry said the estimated loss due to disruptions caused by IndiGo flights is around Rs 1,000 crore in Delhi's business, tourism, and industrial circles. Disruption in air travel restricted the movement of traders, tourists, and business travelers. The CTI said the footfall in various major markets of Delhi has fallen by about 25 percent in the last ten days. Delhi airport handles 1.5 lakh passengers daily, out of which almost 50,000 are traders or business travelers.

Effect on Local Businesses and Tourism

According to CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal, the large number of IndiGo flight cancellations caused much harm to the city's economy. Thousands of hotel, restaurant and resort bookings were cancelled in the last week. Furthermore, an exhibition on automobiles, handlooms, home appliances, and auto parts is being held in Pragati Maidan and Anand Mandapam for over ten days. Many traders and visitors from different cities all over India enlisted themselves for it, but quite a few would not be able to come because of flight cancellations.

Impact on Events and Hospitality Sector

He added that wedding planners, hotel owners, and function hall operators are facing heavy losses. The events of weddings and other functions were cancelled by many families as their guests could not reach Delhi.
