The procedure for renewing American work permits has been delayed for H-1B Visa holders who came back to India. Applicants had their Visa appointments rescheduled at US consular centers. This has caused some applicants some inconvenience.
Visa Appointment Delays
According to the Washington Post, the scheduling of visa appointments on dates between the 15th and 26th of December was postponed without prior notice. US officials had indicated the approaching holiday seasons as a reason for the suspension. Later, an explanation by the US State Department via electronic mail was directed to the visa applicants on the matter. It linked the suspension to the social media policies introduced by the Trump administration.
More Social Media Investigations
US Embassy media representative confirmed that these reviews are already being conducted for categories F, M, and J visas. These visa categories are largely comprised of students. However, these checks will now also include H-1B and H-4 visa applicants.
Single-Subject Case Analysis
A spokesperson for the US State Department said: “In the initial stages, the emphasis was on processing and eliminating the backlog. Currently, each visa application is reviewed separately.” All cases have to get approval from the missions of the respective countries, including the US Consulates in India.
