India Raises Concern Over Delay In H-1B Visa Interviews

There is concern from the government of India in regards to the rescheduling of interviews for the H-1B visas from the United States. This matter entails the rescheduling of previously scheduled interview dates without notification.

Government Interacts with US Authorities

  • This issue was dealt with by the spokesman of the External Affairs Ministry, Randhir Jaiswal, during a press conference on Friday. Jaiswal said that the visa interviews scheduled during the second half of the month have been postponed for several months. Applicants have been told that their "online profiles and social media accounts need further review."
  • It has been observed that some applicants received emails about the postponement of the interviews, which were supposed to be conducted the previous week, but are to be held in May next year. Due to this delay, many applicants have filed petitions to the Indian government regarding the serious issues that are being created due to this delay.

Effects on Indian Applicants

  • According to the spokesperson, visa policy comes under the domain of all respective countries. But India has already protested to the US officials both in Delhi and Washington DC regarding such a matter.
  • Owing to the deferment, Indian professionals are forced to stay in the country for an extended period. This has proven to be a problem for the professionals as well as their families. The Indian government has said that they are trying to ease the difficulties being faced by the applicant individuals.
