India has been seriously concerned about some violent incidents against minorities in neighboring Bangladesh recently. According to the Ministry of External Affairs of India, such incidents cannot be ignored or dismissed.
Official Response of India
- The External Affairs Ministry spokesman, Randhir Jaiswal, called this violence unintelligible and attributed it to extreme elements. There should not be any misunderstanding that this violence is political or that it is being magnified by media, he added during his interaction with media persons on Friday.
- Jaiswal said: "India hopes that the Bangladeshi authorities will take strong action on this matter. The persons responsible for such incidents will have to be punished according to the law."Also Read: Tanishq Ad Controversy: Supernova 9
Events in Bangladesh in recent years
- Tensions are escalating in Bangladesh due to the murder of young leader Sharif Osman Hadi, who was connected with the Inqilab Moncho group. There has been violence after this event in various parts of the country.

Later in the week, a minority youth was also beaten to death at the hands of villagers in the Pangsha circle in the Rajbari district. This attack took place on Wednesday night, as reported in local media. The victim died Thursday morning while undergoing treatment.
India Calls for Accountability
Randhir Jaiswal has said that India is watching developments very closely. He reiterated that justice needs to be provided to victims and members of their family. It is also very imperative that rights of minorities be protected along with maintaining law and order.
Actions Taken to Repatriate Economic Offenders
- During the same press briefing, Jaiswal spoke about the efforts of India to extradite economic offenders who had fled the nation after cheating banks of large sums of money. He was referring to Vijay Mallya and Lalit Modi, who attended a private event overseas.
- “The government is totally committed to bringing such people back to the country,” said Jaiswal. He added, “The legal processes are also being pursued to ensure accountability.”
