US Withdraws From India-Led International Solar Alliance

The United States has proclaimed its withdrawal from a number of international organizations and treaties. President Donald Trump issued executive orders calling for this action and using disagreements with the US interests as justification.

Range of Withdrawal

According to the White House, the US is quitting a total of 66 organizations. This encompasses 31 United Nations and 35 non-UN organizations. Among these, the US will withdraw from the International Solar Alliance, which is headed by India and France. The departure also includes important organizations such as the International Law Commission, the International Trade Center, and the UN Population Agency.

Execution

As per the White House, the US will refrain from attending meetings of these organizations and will cut off its financial support. The officials have been ordered to start the withdrawal process right away. The decision was made after President Trump consulted with his executive team and based on reports from the State Department.

Effect

The US withdrawal indicates a dramatic change in its interaction with international organizations. The action has an impact on funding, participation, and cooperation with a number of global initiatives, including climate and development projects that were under the International Solar Alliance.
