Iran rejected this idea and offered a shorter suspension period of five years. The two parties failed to find common ground between their opposing positions.
  • The US government previously held a more rigid position. The US government demanded that Iran stop all uranium enrichment activities forever. During negotiations, this demand was reduced to a long-term suspension of 20 years, but Iran did not agree.
