A US Navy fighter plane crashed into the sea during operations aboard the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier. The accident happened when an F/A-18 plane was being towed into the hangar bay by a tractor.

Details of the Incident

When towing the jet, the tractor lost control and slid off the deck, and the plane crashed into the sea. The crew members realized the risk early but could not avert the accident. The US Navy authenticated that one sailor was involved in minor injuries in the incident.

Value and Investigation

The destroyed F/A-18 fighter is worth about $68 million. After the incident, the Navy initiated a full investigation to see what caused the accident and avert future cases. 

Similar Recent Incidents

This is the second fighter jet accident involving a US carrier within the last six months. The first case involved the USS Gettysburg, where a fighter jet was mistakenly shot down. Luckily, both pilots survived the incident.

The USS Harry Truman is still operational. It is now one of two US warships that are carrying out airstrikes against Houthi targets in West Asia.
