NEET UG 2025: Over 120 Social Media Channels Face Action For Spreading Exam Misinformation

National Testing Agency (NTA) initiated a crackdown on misinformation regarding the NEET UG 2025 test. After the increase in incorrect information and fear-mongering posts shared on social media platforms, the agency has filed legal complaints against over 120 social media handles, primarily located on Telegram and Instagram. Such social media platforms were alleged to be used to circulate rumors regarding the medical entrance test.

106 Telegram and 16 Instagram channels have been informed to be investigated, the authorities said. The case has been sent to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs' Cyber Crime Coordination Center for action and investigation. NTA also requested the operators of the platform to suspend the offending channels for protecting students against disinformation.

NTA Acts Against NEET UG 2025 Disinformation Online

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially issued enforcement action against organizations propagating misinformation about the NEET UG 2025 examination. This also includes news media publishing fake reports of question paper leaks and unauthorised access to test material.

According to official sources, a total of 122 social media handles have been identified so far. Of these, 106 are Telegram and 16 are Instagram. Case files were sent to Cyber Crime Coordination Center operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs for further detailed cyber investigation.

Misinformation Campaign Triggers Government Response

In order to combat the growing circulation of exam-related fake news, NTA has formally asked both Telegram and Instagram to remove the offending channels. The goal is to suppress false narratives and avoid unnecessary stress among aspirants who are sitting for one of India's most competitive medical entrance exams.

Dedicated Portal for Reporting Fake Content Launched

As a measure to increase transparency, the NTA has also introduced a dedicated complaint portal through which students, teachers, and guardians can complain against suspected NEET-related content. The portal at https://neetclaim.centralindia.cloudapp.azure.com/ received over 1,500 complaints within a very short time.

The majority of the complaints have been regarding Telegram channels that have allegedly posted unauthorized claims relating to NEET UG 2025 content and procedures.

Advisory Released to Students and Guardians

In response to persisting queries, students and their parents have been advised to solely rely on official NTA announcements. The agency informed that no details about the test should be believed unless released through the NTA's official channels.

Misinformation not only harms the integrity of the test-taking process but also causes psychological distress to the candidates at a crucial preparation stage.

Exam Preparations Completed; Admit Cards Released

The NEET UG 2025 examination will be held on May 4. NTA has ensured that the administrative and infrastructural arrangements are in place. Shortlisted candidates were issued admit cards a day before this report, enabling examinees to arrange last-minute travel and preparation plans.

The agency is also keeping watch over online portals for any new instances of online misinformation or misconduct and intends to act swiftly against any such instances.
