England's Ethel Caterham Takes Title Following Death of Former Record Holder
Ethel Caterham, a 115-year-old Englishwoman, has been officially declared the world's oldest living person. Her achievement comes following the death of former record holder Sister Ina Canabaro Lucas, who was 116 years old.
She was born in 1909 and is now living in Camberley.
Caterham was born Aug. 21, 1909, and currently lives at Camberley's Hallmark Lakeview Nursing Home, a luxurious elder care complex with a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Peace a Secret to Longevity
She attributes her longevity to living peacefully and doing everything in her power to avoid trouble. "Not getting into arguments," she adds, has been one of the mantras of her life.
Early Life Had Time Overseas
She went to India when she was 18 and lived there for three years working as a nanny to a British family—a first full-fledged adult life.
