Unfortunate Injuries at Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni's Leadership Questioned
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have not been able to leave a mark in the 2025 IPL season and are out of the playoff picture. Chennai Super Kings seem to be at their lowest of lows. To make matters worse, it is only going to become a hotter issue against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Even after re-taking the reins as captain, Dhoni's leadership has not been able to bring better returns for the franchise.
Former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar, was firm in his stand that the Captain Cool was right in his thinking and expressing that the best steps were always taken among all the works of the franchise done by Dhoni. He put aside the rumors of Dhoni's retirement, saying that any such move, when the time arrives, will be a thought-out decision driven by what's best for CSK.
Dhoni's Team-First Mindset Praised
"I believe that the decisions Mr. Dhoni takes are only taken after he is sure the decision he is making will benefit the team a lot. His inclusion this season is in line with what he feels is best for CSK. His interest has never been in personal benefits but in team results," Gavaskar said. He added that Dhoni considers all decisions based on what is best for the Chennai franchise.
Gavaskar Urges CSK to Strengthen Bowling Line-up
In addition, Gavaskar felt that CSK's flexibility has been weak, particularly the bowling section. "The side was not aggressive enough this year. The bowling has been the biggest weakness of the team," he added.
He instructed the franchise to splurge on talent spotting and not rely only on their batting ability. "If CSK want to be competitive next year, support bowling is crucial. Selecting bowlers who can get wickets on a consistent basis should be a top priority," he said.
Gavaskar believed that the mini-auction to be conducted in the next few months gives CSK the opportunity to refresh its bowling department, and the management must take advantage of it.
