Maruti Suzuki's Market Share Falls Below 40% As Mahindra Rises To Second Spot

April Vehicle Sales Overview

India saw sales of 3.49 lakh passenger vehicles in April 2025, as per information from the Federation of Automotive Dealers Associations (FADA). This is a year-on-year increase of 1.55%, up from 3.44 lakh units sold during April 2024.

Maruti Suzuki's Market Share Plummets

  • Maruti Suzuki dispatched 1,38,021 units in April 2025.
  • Its market share fell to 39.44%.
  • In April 2024, it had sold 1,39,173 units with a 40.39% share.
  • The company had retained over 40% market share during FY 2023–24 and FY 2024–25.
  • This is the first time its share has dropped below that level.

Mahindra Climbs to Second Place

  • Mahindra & Mahindra shifted to second position because of robust SUV sales.
  • The company made the sale of 48,405 vehicles in April and thus got a market share of 13.83%.
  • At the given month, Mahindra traded 38,696 vehicles, having 11.23% of the market share.
  • It was earlier in the fourth spot.
  • Its market share has risen from 10.70% in FY 2023–24 to 12.33% in FY 2024–25.

Hyundai Falls to Fourth Spot

  • Hyundai retailed 43,642 vehicles in April 2025.
  • Its market share fell to 12.47%.
  • Hyundai liquidated 49,243 cars in April 2024 and thus had a market share of 14.29%.
  • The firm had stood second during FY 2023–24 and FY 2024–25 with approximately 13–14% market share.

Third Position Occupied by Tata Motors

  • Tata Motors retailed 44,065 automobiles in April 2025.
  • Its market share is 12.59%.
  • In April 2024, Tata sold 46,915 cars and hence had a share of 13.61%.
  • It is still in the third position based on market position.
