Indian Billionaire Balvinder Singh Sahni Jailed For Money Laundering In Dubai

One of the Indian entrepreneurs, Balvinder Singh Sahni, has been sentenced to five years in prison by a Dubai court for money laundering in a case that the businessman's family is sure was politically influenced. Sahni, the owner of property firm RSG, has been directed to forfeit properties used in the offense and also to pay a fine. After serving the prison time, his deportation from the United Arab Emirates will be organized by the authorities.

Balvinder Singh Sahni, a 53-year-old Indian national and head of RSG Group, was found guilty by Dubai’s Fourth Criminal Court in a case concerning financial misconduct. The court determined that Sahni and others laundered approximately 150 million dirhams, equivalent to ₹340 crore, using shell companies and falsified invoices. The investigation concluded in 2024, leading to formal charges against Sahni and his associates, including his eldest son.

Court Ruling and Penalties

The court also imposed five years of imprisonment and a fine of 500,000 dirhham (or ₹1.14 crore). The assets worth 150 million dirham, which were used for illegal money transfer, have also been ordered by the authorities to be seized. Sahni would be extradited from the UAE after his release from prison according to the court ruling.
