False Reports Concerning S-400 Surface on the Internet
Pakistan has upped disinformation efforts. Of late, China has joined them in disseminating disinformation. Chinese and Azerbaijani sources have released misleading reports concerning Pakistani fighter aircraft.
S-400 in the spotlight amid alleged incident
The S-400 is a key part of India's air defense. Its radar is reported to be able to pick up targets up to 600 kilometers away. Pakistan's state television channel, PTV, reported that a Pakistani JF-17 combat aircraft destroyed the S-400 system at Adampur, Punjab. The attack, in this report, was carried out by a missile.
Soon after, the same news was carried by China's official Xinhua news agency. Global Times republished it, with an Azerbaijani news website also propagating the news.
Indian Military Dispels the Lie
Indian armed forces acted fast in response to the allegations. Authorities clarified that the S-400 system had not been bombed or destroyed. They included Pakistan's claim that it has destroyed the system with a hypersonic missile as a false one.
S-400 System: Key Facts
The S-400 is also referred to as the Triumph system. It was manufactured in Russia and was commissioned during the year 2007. The system was meant for defense against air attacks, including aircraft, drones, and missiles.
It has several radar systems and missile types. This allows it to detect and engage multiple threats at different ranges. Russia, China, and Turkey are a few of the restricted countries using the S-400.
In 2007, the system was claimed by Russia to have detected two high-speed targets moving at 2,800 meters per second at an altitude of 16 kilometers.
