Reliance Power Secures 350 MW Solar Power Project With Battery Backup

Reliance Power's operating vehicle- Reliance NU Energy, has received the commissioning of a 350 MW solar power project. The project includes an embedded 175 MW/700 MWh capacity Battery Energy Storage System (BES).

Battery System Information

  • The BESS will offer 175 MWh of backup power.
  • The battery can run for 4 hours continuously.
  • The rate of Rs. 3.33 per kilowatt-hour (KWh) has been fixed for a duration of 25 years.

Company's Power Portfolio

  • Reliance Power has a power generation capacity of 5,305 MW of electricity.
  • Of these, 3,960 MW is from Sasan Power Limited, the world's largest integrated coal-based power project.

Tender Participation

  • SJVN Limited, a Navratna PSU, issued the tender.
  • A total of 19 companies submitted bids.
  • 18 of the companies were eligible for e-reverse auction.

Subsidiary Involvement

  • Reliance NU Suntech Private Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Power, is the entity that will execute the project.
  • Furthermore, the organization has inked a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

Expansion in Future

  • The pact involves development of Asia's largest integrated solar and BESS project.
