Qatar Gifts Trump a Luxury Jet
Former U.S. President Donald Trump was gifted a luxury plane by the Qatari royal family in the form of a Boeing 747-8 jumbo aircraft. The royal family gifted the plane prior to Trump's scheduled visit to the Middle East this week.
Trump Declares That Refusal Would Be Foolish
In making his comments while standing at a White House press conference, Trump had words regarding the gift. According to Trump, flying on the plane was an excellent idea and questioned why any person would reject such an act. "Would I be dumb to say no when they give me a fantastic plane for nothing?" Trump reported.
When asked whether the Qatari royal family would gain from the gift, or if there were any national security concerns, Trump brushed off the questions. He reaffirmed that he had no problem accepting the plane.
Plans for the Plane After Presidency
A reporter asked Trump if he planned to keep the jet for personal use when he was no longer in office. Trump replied: gruffly, saying he was not going to buy the plane and would not spend "a billion dollars or $400 million" on it. He then announced that the plane would be donated to his presidential library to be seen by the public.
Officials to Refurbish Jet with Presidential Appurtenances
The American officials will also make the donated plane as similar as the current Air Force One in features, reports say. Trump also wishes to use the plane as a reserve Air Force One for the rest of his term in January 2029.
Democrats Trash Gift Acceptance
Several Democratic leaders condemned Trump's decision to buy the aircraft. They claimed that the move raises ethical and national security issues. Some of the issues raised include possible undue influence by Qatar and the appearance of impropriety.
