Ashok Elluswamy's Role at Tesla
Ashok Elluswamy, an Indian-origin professional, is the Vice President of AI Software at Tesla. He is responsible for some major developments in Tesla's autonomous driving technology. In a recent podcast conversation with a YouTuber, he discussed working with Elon Musk and shared his views on autonomous cars.
Driverless Cars by 2035
According to Elluswamy, human drivers still operate vehicles today. But in the future, AI will do the driving for good. He said that from the year 2035, new vehicles will be automated. These automated cars that run by AI are set to become common on roads by the next decade. Those who prefer driving manually will be forced to buy traditional models. Tesla is already preparing to launch driverless cars in certain U.S. cities. All of them will share the same AI platform.
Working With Elon Musk
Elluswamy provided some perspective on how Elon Musk works. To him, Musk makes big gambles and puts in enormous efforts—usually 80 to 90 hours a week. Elluswamy described Musk as very smart, having great foresight, and tremendous technological insight. He credited Musk's self-discipline and technical background as key factors in Tesla's success.
