Rahul Gandhi Alleges PM Modi Assented To Caste Census Under Pressure From Opposition

Rahul Gandhi Addresses in Bihar Amid Political Tensions

Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi addressed students at Darbhanga's Mithila University in Bihar. During the event, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to a caste census due to pressure from backward classes. Gandhi claimed the Prime Minister feared opposition from opposition parties in support of backward classes.

Gandhi reported that local officials tried to discourage him from going to the rally. He stated his car was stopped at the university gate, but he walked the rest of the way to reach the platform. He claimed people's support enabled him to overcome those obstacles.

Congress Begins Its Bihar Election Campaign

Ahead of Bihar assembly elections to be conducted later this year, the Congress party has kickstarted its campaign. Rahul Gandhi announced a new program called 'Shiksha Nyay Samvad' in an attempt to connect with young voters. The program is related to education rights and social justice.

Addressing the event, Gandhi emphasized that attempts to halt the gathering were futile because of support in the area. He credited individuals' affection and support as his motivation.

Criticism of Economic Priorities of Modi Government

Rahul Gandhi criticized the central government for being biased towards big companies. According to him, the Modi-government NDA is only benefiting the rich industrialists such as Ambani and Adani. He believes that just 5 percent of the people are being benefitted by such policies.

He argued that the Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis are not included in the system. Gandhi accused the government of not considering their demands.

Demands for Caste Census and Reforms in Education

Rahul Gandhi asked for a caste census across India, similar to the one done in Telangana under the Congress rule. He also put the following demands forward:

  • Reservation quotas for private universities and colleges.
  • Release of funds allotted for SC and ST sub-plan immediately.

He urged the students to protest for these changes even if the government does not want to.
