Putin And Trump Discuss Ending Russia-Ukraine War In Phone Call

Leaders Talk for Two Hours on Current Conflict

Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke on the telephone for nearly two hours. During the call, Putin said that Russia is ready to put an end to the war against Ukraine. The two nations recently conducted direct talks in Turkey.

Putin Show Interest in Peace Treaty

Putin told reporters that Russia is ready to work with Ukraine on a peace agreement. Putin said that he and Trump agreed on the fact that there is a need for peace but that several conditions are still left to be settled. They include the duration and conditions of attaining such an agreement.

Ceasefire Terms Still Under Discussion

Putin stated that the ceasefire deal will have certain conditions, including its duration. On the other hand, Ukraine and allies asked Russia to impose an immediate 30-day ceasefire.

Putin Welcomes Trump's Intervention

Putin thanked Trump for his backing of the direct talks. Trump appreciated, Putin said, Russia's work towards peace in spite of the current obstacles. Putin also added that talks are going in the proper direction but that the war's causes should be addressed so that peace can endure.

Trump Hopeful About Progress

After the phone conversation, Trump revealed that Russia and Ukraine were to commence ceasefire talks soon. Trump said that he had a great conversation with Putin. Trump also briefed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as well as European leaders on the peace talks. On Twitter, Trump stressed that both countries know how to negotiate the ceasefire among them.

Europe Still Skeptical About Putin's Intentions

European nations are still cautious of Putin's intentions. They are concerned that Trump will attempt to negotiate a strong deal with Ukraine, maybe while overlooking some risks. Russian aggression began the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022. In only three years, the war has claimed thousands of lives and huge destruction, especially in Ukraine.
