Ukraine Is Ready for Peace, Zelenskyy Confirms
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said Ukraine is prepared to put an end to the war. He is, however, not sure Russia is prepared to do the same. His comment followed a phone call that was made between the former United States President Donald Trump, who called both Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump would want talks between Russia and Ukraine directly.
Conditions for Ceasefire Shared by Ukraine
Zelenskyy claimed that Ukraine has been grievously damaged and is so in urgent need of peace. He further said that a ceasefire should precede the war ending. Zelenskyy appreciated Trump's offer of proposing a ceasefire without any conditions. He reiterated once more that Ukraine doesn't trust Russia and requested strong guarantees in advance before anything is acted on.
Pressure Called on Russia to Halt Attacks
Zelenskyy demanded sanctions if Russia does not end the war. Pressure must be exerted more forcefully on Moscow to cease the violence and bring back peace, particularly in Kyiv, he further stated. He emphasized that preventing more loss of life is Ukraine's ultimate objective.
Putin Shows Willingness to Negotiate Peace
President Putin addressed Trump for nearly two hours. Putin indicated that he is open to negotiating peace with Ukraine. He talked of the fact that there are certain conditions to be fulfilled prior to making any agreement. In his opinion, the negotiations are in a good direction.
Pay Attention to Resolving Root Causes of War
Putin indicated that both countries must sit down and discuss the main issues that caused the war to usher in peace. Putin further stated it was extremely crucial at this point to come up with effective remedies. Trump, after the phone call, was in good spirits. Trump stated that the talks for a ceasefire should commence shortly and that his talk with Putin was extremely positive.
