US Builds ‘Golden Dome’ for Future Missile Defense
The United States has started developing a new missile defense system called the ‘Golden Dome’. This system aims to stop missiles or nuclear weapons from entering US airspace. Former President Donald Trump said Canada is interested in joining the project.
Canada Confirms Interest in the Golden Dome
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed this interest. He said Canada is discussing its participation in the US defense project. “We are in talks to join the Golden Dome. This system can protect Canadian citizens from future missile threats from space,” Carney stated. He added that Canada will hold high-level discussions with Trump to decide the next step—whether to build its own system or join the US one.
Trump Explains Purpose and Scope of the System
Trump previously announced that the US would build a missile defense system similar to Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’. He said the US Space Force, led by General Michael Guttlin, would manage the project. According to Trump, the Golden Dome can stop missile attacks from any part of the world or from space. He emphasized that the project is vital for national safety.
Estimated Costs and International Reaction
Trump estimated the system would cost $175 billion. But officials say the actual cost could reach $542 billion. China and Russia strongly oppose the plan. They believe the project will cause instability and could turn space into a battlefield.
