North Korea Expresses Unconditional Support For Russia In Ukraine Conflict

Kim Jong Un Reaffirms Support for Moscow

North Korea reiterated its unreserved backing of Russia in the war with Ukraine. Pyongyang was visited by Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu on Wednesday and held a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. In the meeting, Kim declared that North Korea supports Russia without any reservations.

Kim informed North Korean state media that his nation stands with Russia on all significant issues in world affairs, including the war in Ukraine. The leaders also talked about deepening their strategic cooperation.

Strategic Cooperation and Regional Reconstruction Discussed

In the meeting, the two sides discussed regional development plans, such as Russia's Kursk region reconstruction. This was Shoigu's second trip to North Korea in 2025. He had visited previously in March when he met with Kim as well. At that time, Kim had reaffirmed North Korea's commitment to supporting Russia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

North Korean Troops Reportedly Engaged in Ukraine War

In April, North Korea formally admitted that its soldiers are fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine. Russia had confirmed the same before North Korea issued a statement. Both nations stated that the deployment of troops is part of a mutual defense pact.

While the number of North Korean troops participating is unknown, that between 10,000 to 12,000 soldiers are taking part was reported by Ukrainian and South Korean intelligence. Russia is providing North Korea with sophisticated weaponry and high-technology gear in exchange, reports say.

Ukraine Conflict Continues Without Resolution

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has gone on for more than three years. Attempts to seek a peaceful resolution have been unsuccessful. Peace talks between the two countries are ongoing in Istanbul, and former United States President Donald Trump has indicated that he would like to assist in bringing a halt to the war.
