Russia Launches 479 Drones In Ukraine’s Largest Drone Strike Since War Began

Sizable Drone and Missile Attack Confirmed by Ukraine

Russia launched 479 drones into Ukraine, the biggest drone attack since war began three years ago. Ukraine's Air Force confirmed the attack. It also disclosed that 20 missiles were fired at central and western regions of the country.

According to Ukrainian authorities, 277 drones and 19 missiles were shot down by air defense systems. Only 10 of the weapons that were fired made it to their targets.

Russian Drone Attack Timing and Tactics

The Russian drone attacks typically commence at dusk and continue through to dawn. This timing makes it easier for the drones to evade detection. Most unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are difficult to trace at night.

There have been accusations stating that Russia is targeting civilian populations. United Nations statistics indicate 12,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed since the fighting started. Russia insists, however, that it only targets military targets.

Russia's Naval Plan: Becoming a Global Leader

President Vladimir Putin recently signed a new long-term plan for Russia's Navy. Kremlin spokesman Nikolai Patrushev unveiled the plan. He said that the aim is to create the world's best naval power. No further information was given.

Russia currently has the third-largest navy in the world after China and the United States. Its navy has 79 submarines, 14 of which are nuclear-powered, and 222 warships.

The plan is to build a more powerful naval force by 2050. The U.S. Department of Defense meanwhile reports that the navy of China keeps expanding. It may come to 460 by 2030.
