Sunita Williams Wax Statue Unveiled In Asansol, West Bengal

Statue Unveiled by Sculptor Sushanta Rai

A wax statue of astronaut Sunita Williams, who has Indian roots, was revealed in Asansol, West Bengal. The statue was made by sculptor Sushanta Rai. He said the process of making the statue took about one and a half months.

Delay in Unveiling Due to Suit Availability

The statue's unveiling was delayed. The reason was the delay in getting an astronaut suit. The sculptor first contacted NASA, but got no reply. Later, with help from a friend, the suit was brought from the United States.

Inspiration Behind the Statue

Sushanta Rai shared that the idea to create the statue came after Sunita Williams completed her nine-month stay at the International Space Station. She then returned to Earth, which inspired him to make the statue.

Statue Displayed in Sculptor’s Museum

Currently, the wax statue of Sunita Williams is on display at Sushanta Rai’s personal museum.
